Yes, the world is still far from perfect, but there are also many, many good things around us. In any case, when you really think about it, can the world ever be perfect? By whose standards is that perfection to be determined? What resources are required to make such perfection possible? Ultimately, the best anyone can do is to perfect himself or herself. Along the way, we need to tame our mind, juice it to the maximum, and for the highest purposes. Only when we step back and free ourselves from the constraints of our desires can we see how much we already have and how much happier we should be; how we need to stop fretting about small and insignificant things and instead re-examine our priorities. In the Sukhmani Sahib, Sri Guru Arjuna Deva reminds us that we should be ever grateful to God for His protection, care and blessings. If the Lord gives us nine or six or even just one out of the ten things we asked for, let us be glad and learn to build on what we have received, instead of feeling sad or angry or disturbed because of what we did not get. Who knows, perhaps the other nine things are meant to be born out of the one thing that we are blessed with?
