Dr. Prabha Atre is one of the classical vocalists of the kirana gharana in Hindustani music. Dr. Atre, born on 13 September 1932, studied law and science, before pursuing a PhD in Indian classical music. She is a teacher-researcher and has published several books on the archaic traditions of classical music. Dr. Atre was introduced to music and entered into the world of performances in the times of legends like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor and Kesarbai Kankar. She became a torch-bearer of a unique style drawing influences from baul to the Beatles, and has trained several imminent musicians after her.
