Bio Batteries- Part II

Pankaj Lohia

Bio batteries are a non-toxic source of energy. They can be charged much faster than normal chemical batteries and are extremely safe. Bio batteries are used extensively in medical devices such as pacemakers and hearing aids. Defence equipment such as spying devices, surveillance devices and remote sensing devices also make use of such batteries.

However, the batteries can preserve only limited amounts of energy compared to lithium based batteries and are not viable for long term storage of energy. There is a constant challenge in improving these power sources and making it sustainable.

Due to the explosion of electronic devices it is imperative that we use an environmentally cleaner source that can run these devices. Bio-batteries can be a reliable alternative that can power our devices.
