Annual Global CHYK Camp: ‘Potential to Performance’

Annual Global CHYK Camp: ‘Potential to Performance’
Published on

In the serene foothills of the Siruvani mountains, the Chinmaya International Residential School (CIRS) played host to a transformative gathering of 120 young seekers for the 18th Annual Global CHYK Camp (GCC) 2025. This year’s theme, ‘Potential to Performance’, provided a spiritual and practical roadmap for the youth to bridge the gap between their latent abilities and their dynamic contribution to the world.

The cornerstone of the seven-day retreat was the study of the Gita Panchamrit, conducted by Pujya Swami Swaroopananda, the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, who masterfully decoded five essential verses from the Bhagavad Gita, presenting them as a ‘five-fold nectar’ for modern living.

The sessions were characterised by profound philosophical depth and practical humour, urging campers to transition from ‘thinkers’ to ‘doers’. In a remarkable display of dedication, all 120 participants committed these verses to memory, internalising the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. By the end of the camp, ‘Lift Yourself by Yourself’ was ringing in everyone’s ears.

Beyond the lecture hall, the camp pushed participants through rigorous experiential learning modules. Two primary tracks focused on the development of core character traits:

- Campers engaged in physical and mental challenges designed to build resilience, strength, and a compassionate heart.

- A reflective journey through the lush CIRS campus, this ‘Yatra’ (pilgrimage) allowed students to introspect on their life's purpose amidst the tranquillity of nature.

One of the most transformative yet perhaps most underrated aspect of a CHYK camp are the discussion groups. Sitting around with peers with a CHYK facilitator goes a long way in helping us introspect and know the depths within ourselves, which we seldom do. The curriculum was bolstered by a diverse range of workshops, led by various acharyas.

Swami Anukoolananda conducted a high-energy workshop on building ‘Unshakable Confidence,’ while Swamini Supriyananda led an evocative session on the ‘Power of Forgiveness’ as a tool for emotional liberation. Br. Sanatan Chaitanya and Br. Darshan Chaitanya provided insights into the science of intuition, while Brni. Shripriya Chaitanya and Brni. Bhakti Chaitanya explored the theory of ‘Multiple Intelligences’ through a Vedantic lens.

A unique movie workshop by Br. Hari Chaitanya taught campers how to discern spiritual themes in contemporary cinema, proving that Vedanta is relevant in every facet of life.

‘The purpose of this camp is not just to acquire information, but to facilitate a transformation—to ensure that the potential within every CHYK doesn't just remain a seed, but blossoms into a performance that serves the world.’ — Swami Swaroopananda

Some highlights from the camp include daily sadhana sessions in the morning, ranging from japa and kirtan to guided meditation, which enabled the campers to connect deeper with themselves. In the true global CHYK camp fashion, the campers were exposed to a variety of cuisines from the humble dosas of Tamil Nadu to the soft and creamy croissants of Europe.

This year’s camp was truly one for the history books! As we marked the 50th Anniversary of the CHYK movement, our campers rose to the occasion by composing an original camp song. Inspired by the Gita Panchamrit, their lyrics captured the timeless wisdom of the Gita and the vibrant spirit of half a century of youth empowerment.

The camp concluded with a moving ceremony where each camper received a special gift from Pujya Swamiji, symbolising the transmission of knowledge and the responsibility to serve society. This was further enriched by the soulful camp impressions delivered by people from different countries, narrating their unique experiences and sharing their stories. As the 120-youth return to their respective countries, they carry with them more than just memories; they carry a ‘shield of dispassion’ and a ‘sword of contentment,’ ready to perform their Dharma with excellence and love.

Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (CHYK) is the youth wing of Chinmaya Mission, aimed at empowering young adults (aged 18-35) to explore their potential through the study of Vedantic philosophy and its application in daily life.
