Pollan was a revered Tamil freedom fighter and commander in the army of Chieftain Dheeran Chinnamalai between 1755-1805. He was highly skilled in gathering intelligence and secrets from the British army and relaying them to Dheeran Chinnamalai, which was instrumental in their military strategies. Pollan's tactical information and contributions were key to Dheeran Chinnamalai's victories in several battles against the British, including those at the Cauvery River in 1801, Odanilai in 1802, and Arachalur in 1804. He was captured and publicly executed by shooting at Nallamangapalayam village near Arachalur, in August 1805.
